Ksar of Aït Ben Haddou — UNESCO World Heritage nomination
The 1987 UNESCO inscription dossier for Aït Ben Haddou. The document sets out the criteria under which the ksar was inscribed as a World Heritage Site — Criterion (iv) for its illustration of the main earthen construction types of southern Morocco, and Criterion (v) for its representation of a traditional habitat made vulnerable by socioeconomic and cultural change.
The dossier formally identifies CERKAS as the body responsible for monitoring the property's visual integrity and condition, while noting the difficulty CERKAS faces in carrying out this mandate at scale. The document remains the institutional reference point for conservation policy at the site and serves as the framework within which subsequent restoration interventions have been evaluated.
