Rammed earth

The English term for the building technique in which damp earth is compacted into wooden formwork to produce load-bearing walls. The French pisé, the Arabic tabia, and the Tamazight tabut all refer to the same technique. The English term is included here principally because it is the standard scholarly vocabulary in international conservation literature.
